Fine tuning a Rolls Royce

Sometimes parents do know best.

Or swing coaches who sound like parents.

Just ask Jiyai Shin, who moved up a spot to No. 3 on Monday in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings.

“Stand up straighter.”

Boiled to its essence, that was the advice that helped Shin win the Wegmans LPGA Sunday. Australian swing coach Steve McRae provided a simple and quick fix when he first connected with Shin two weeks ago at the McDonald’s LPGA. Shin said her confidence was failing of late with her ball striking slightly off, but McRae fixed her with an adjustment of her posture. Shin’s caddie, Aussie Dean Herden, grew up with McRae, who works regularly with Katherine Hull. Herden arranged the connection. Shin responded with a third-place finish at the McDonald’s LPGA.

“Jiyai doesn’t need a lot of help, she is pretty much self-taught,” Herden said. “She’s a Rolls Royce who just needed some fine tuning.”
