Its the finish not start that counts for Woods

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Although Tiger Woods is six strokes off the lead following an opening 71 at Augusta National, there were facts behind his optimism on Thursday.

In 16 trips to Augusta National he has signed for better than a 71 just five times and he trailed by seven strokes following the first round on his way to a playoff victory in 2005.

In fact, Woods has never led after the first round at Augusta National and has been no closer to the lead than three strokes after Day 1 in any of his victories. If the four-time champion seemed a tad overly optimistic on Thursday he certainly has the record book on his side.
