AKRON, Ohio – Firestone Country Club continues to yield some eye-popping driving stats this week.
Through the first three rounds, the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational has featured 24 drives of more than 400 yards, most of them at the 16th, where the backside of a hill creates a springboard effect, and where on Saturday the wind favored drives.
The 16th is a monster par 5, measuring 667 yards, but Bubba Watson reached it hitting driver and 8-iron on Saturday. Watson hit a 442-yard drive there. So did Keegan Bradley.
Watson leads the field in driving distance, averaging 351.1 yards per drive.
The week has featured a whopping 306 drives covering more than 350 yards.
