College football’s frantic final weekend put Jack Nicklaus, of all people, in quite a predicament.
With Florida State’s dominating win over Florida, Ohio State’s escape over Michigan and Auburn’s improbable upset of Alabama, the Seminoles and Buckeyes are on a likely collision course for the BCS title game.
That’s an uneasy scenario for Nicklaus. He grew up in Columbus, attended Ohio State and even dotted the “I” with the Buckeyes’ band. But his grandson, Nick O’Leary, is the starting tight end for the Seminoles, and Jack attends nearly every game.
So who would Nicklaus cheer for if the two teams met in Pasadena?
“I’m an Ohio State guy,” he told the Palm Beach Post, “but blood is thicker than anything else.”
