Fowler in good spirits despite carding 80

AKRON, Ohio – Rickie Fowler pulled tough duty Friday at the WGC-Bridgestone Championship.

He is writing a first person column for the Akron Beacon Journal.

He shot 80 in the second round.

Give Fowler credit, he had some fun with it in Saturday's newspaper.

“Well, I hit it 80 times on Friday,” Fowler wrote. “But today is a new day. Hey, it was better than an 81!”

Fowler even detailed how he hit a fan in the leg with an errant, blind tee shot at the sixth hole. He took care to get the fan’s name (Doug Herbert) and include the fact that he was bruised but not seriously injured.

“After the round, I grabbed some Chipotle and made sure I got the order right for Bubba Watson and his wife, Angie,” Fowler wrote. “After that, I kicked back and watched the Olympics. I’m pretty good at leaving my emotions at the course . . . It was just another day on the golf course. God gave us the blessing to be able to play golf and do this for a living.”
