NORTON, Mass. – The Wisconsin boys are pushing each other to the top of the leaderboard Sunday at the Deutsche Bank Championship.

Jerry Kelly and Steve Stricker are paired together.

Kelly birdied five of the first seven holes with a bogey to get within a shot of the leader, Jim Furyk. Stricker birdied four of the first seven to keep pace with Kelly.

If Kelly wins, you might see him hug Stricker. Kelly says Stricker gave him some putting lessons late last year that turned him around on the greens. Stricker’s considered one of the Tour’s best putters.

Kelly is 30th on the PGA Tour this season in putting average. He was 156th last year.

“He has helped me tremendously with my putting,” Kelly said. “I’ve probably made my biggest turnaround on the greens this year.

“I’ve always talked to Steve about how he putts. But finally, at the end of last year, I told him 'You have to give me some tips and help me out.’”

Kelly said he got more intensive instruction at the Merril Lynch Shootout in December. Stricker was his teammate in the two-man team event.

“We probably got more into it there because he needed me,” Kelly cracked.
