Furyk cards 28 on back nine at Conway Farms

Jim Furyk shot 8-under 28 Friday at the BMW Championship to vault into contention midway through his second round at the par-71 Conway Farms.

Furyk began the round on the 10th hole and made birdie on the first three holes. After par on the 13th hole he made birdie on the 14th and eagle on the par-4 15th. Birdies on Nos. 17 and 18 gave him 28.

Despite being left off the U.S. Presidents Cup team a week ago by captain Fred Couples, Furyk has played well the past month. He tied for ninth place at both the Canadian Open and WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, then finished second at the PGA Championship. Furyk tied for sixth at The Barclays and tied for 27th two weeks ago at the Deutsche Bank Championship.
