A victory Sunday at the 18-man World Challenge did more than snap Graeme McDowell’s two-year winless drought. It also vaulted the Northern Irishman 10 spots in the Official World Ranking, to No. 14, which is nearly where he began the 2012 season (13th).
Despite featuring very limited fields, both the World Challenge and 12-player Nedbank Challenge in South Africa offered world-ranking points.
Martin Kaymer won his first title of the season at the Nedbank and jumped from 32nd to 28th in the rankings. That helped salvage what had been a largely disappointing campaign for the German, who began the year at No. 4 in the world.
Keegan Bradley, runner-up at Sherwood, rose from 15th to a personal-best 11th in the world.
There was only minimal movement in the rest of the top 10: world No. 1 Rory McIlroy, Luke Donald, Tiger Woods, Justin Rose, Louis Oosthuizen (up from 7th), Lee Westwood, Adam Scott (down from 5th), Jason Dufner, Brandt Snedeker (up from 10th), Webb Simpson (down from 9th).
