Garcia matches course record in Dubai

Maybe all that's been standing between Sergio Garcia and more wins is his vision.

In his first tournament since undergoing laser eye surgery a month ago, Garcia shot an 8-under-par 64 on Friday in the DP World Tour Championship, matching the Earth Course record at the Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai.

And he did it despite two bogeys and a triple bogey.

Garcia birdied four of his first five holes and made an eagle at the 14th, but tripled No. 16 with a ball in the water and three putts. He finished strong, with a birdie and another eagle.

'It was unbelievable, wasn't it?' the 32-year-old Spaniard said afterward.

Garcia said his pre-surgery vision – he had an astigmatism – wasn't that bad, but wearing contact lenses was uncomfortable. He said he was 'still kind of getting used to' not wearing them.

Garcia got a huge break on his final hole. His drive was headed for a stream, but the ball hit some rocks and bounced out, and he wound up sinking an 18-foot putt for eagle.

After 36 holes, Garcia stands at 7-under 137.
