Garcia turns in solid Open performance

RSS

SANDWICH, England – Don’t look now, but Sergio Garcia may have just recorded consecutive top-10 finishes in major championships.

Garcia shot 70-70 the first two days to make people believe he could have a chance to win the Open Championship but a third-round 74 moved him back and seemingly out of contention.

With the weather conditions fairly tame on Sunday, Garcia made four birdies in his first seven holes of the final round to get to 4 under on the day. At the time, with severe weather on the way, it seemed like Garcia would have a chance to win. But he made a costly double bogey on the eighth hole that derailed his chances. Still he shot 2-over 282 and was tied for 10th when he finished. Garcia tied for seventh place at the U.S. Open.

“You start thinking about what could’ve been but at the same time you know the course is playing tough,” Garcia said. “Overall it was a good, solid week. I can’t be disappointed.”
