Glover experiences driving problems

Lucas Glover doesn’t make excuses and he likely didn’t have much interest in talking after finishing his week at Liberty National with rounds of 75-81, but has learned that the U.S. Open champion had some help on his way to that 14-over total.

Sources close to Glover confirmed he noticed a crack in the head of his Nike Sumo Tour driver – the same club he used to win June’s U.S. Open just the other side of the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge – 15 minutes before he teed off for his first round on Thursday, forcing him to play the 7,419-yard layout with nothing more than a 3-wood.

A replacement driver arrived from Nike Golf on Glover’s 11th hole on Friday, but he didn’t feel comfortable switching to an untested club mid-round and stayed with the 3-wood the rest of the way.
