CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The only thing Lucas Glover was sick of was poor play, although a stomach ailment on Thursday didn’t help.
Glover took a one-stroke lead into the 16th hole at the Wells Fargo Championship on Friday and got Green Mile-d, done in by Quail Hollow’s Draconian final turn with a bogey-bogey-uninspired par finish.
Still, Glover is at 9 under par, three shots clear of Pat Perez, following a second-round 68.
“I was going home a lot on Fridays so it feels good to play more golf,” said Glover, who has missed his last three cuts.
On Thursday Glover was slowed by a stomach ailment but recovered quickly, even making a trip to a local Bass Pro Shop following his round. Similarly, his game seems to have recovered from a tough stretch.
“I’m there,” he said. “I’ve made a ton of birdies in two days (15). . . . The way it is out here you can find one little thing on the range and have a great week.”
As for his now-signature beard, Glover was asked how long he plans to keep the facial hair: “Don’t know, either until it gets too hot or starts to itch too much.”
