Good timing for Toms

ORLANDO, Fla. – Maybe David Toms is due at Bay Hill, he’s never finished better than tied for 17th in nine starts at Arnie’s Place, or maybe he’s just inspired by the thought of returning to Atlanta Athletic Club, site of his only major victory (2001 PGA) and this year’s PGA Championship.

Toms, who is tied for fifth place after a Saturday 69 at Bay Hill, has been back to AAC since his victory but not since Rees Jones redesigned the Highlands Course in 2006 his caddie Scott Gneiser said.

It didn’t seem like the right time to tell Toms that Jones lengthened the par-3 15th hole, which Toms aced with a 5-wood from 227 yards in 2001, to some 260 yards.
