There are good weeks and then there was Jimmy Walker’s Texas Open. Walker, a San Antonio resident who lives about 30 minutes from the new TPC San Antonio layout, carded four sub-par rounds, played in the final group on a Sunday for the first time on the PGA Tour and finished tied for third, his best finish in four injury-plagued seasons.
On Tuesday as Walker was making the drive from San Antonio to Dallas for this week’s Byron Nelson Championship the normally reserved player wasn’t hiding his excitement.
“I have a lot of positive energy, not just with golf, but with everything,” he said.
Off the golf course Walker’s life is about to take a turn for the better as his wife, Erin, approaches her due date for the couple’s first child in early July. While the highlight of the week may have come Saturday night when Walker’s caddie, Andy Sanders, got engaged.
“It’s one of my wife’s best friends and we introduced them about five years ago at the same restaurant on the River Walk where he asked her to marry him,” Walker laughed.
And Adam Scott thought he had a good week in San Antonio.
