Graeme McDowell cut his final ties to Callaway Golf on Thursday in the first round of the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship.
On the 17th hole at Abu Dhabi GC, the Ulsterman cracked his Callaway driver. The resulting crack led to a drive of 200 yards which landed in a water hazard. McDowell went on to make double bogey on the hole en route to even-par 72.
Had the driver not cracked and he had made par, McDowell would be T-9 instead of T-35.
“Dodgy old Callaway thing anyway! Been in bag for 18 months now. Couple of wins and a Ryder Cup with it,” McDowell tweeted.
The ’10 U.S. Open champion will replace that driver with Cleveland Golf’s latest driver offering, called the Classic.
