Graham gets emotional in Royal Melbourne return

MELBOURNE, Australia – As Ernie Els was dusting off a practice round at Royal Melbourne, GTC spotted David Graham walking the property.

The Australian captained the first International team in 1994 but hadn’t been back to the matches since. Although he was born in Windsor, Australia, Graham hasn’t traveled home much since he turned pro and started playing the PGA Tour in the early 1970s.

When asked why he decided to return for this year’s event, the 65-year-old became emotional.

“I kind of have a bucket list,” Graham said. “I think it’s going to be a pretty good time before the (Presidents Cup) comes back to Australia. I may not be here when it comes back.”

Graham also planned to stop by Riversdale Golf Club, about 15 minutes from Royal Melbourne, where he received his first job as an assistant pro.
