Sophie Gustafson won’t be saying goodbye to fellow LPGA pros quite yet.
Gustafson, who announced last week that she was leaving the LPGA to focus on the Ladies European Tour, was awarded one of the final two special invitations on Tuesday to next week’s Evian Championship in France, which will be played as a major championship for the first time.
“Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in,” Gustafson tweeted. “Thank you very much @EvianChamp.”
Gustafson, 39, is looking to rebuild her game and confidence on the Ladies European Tour next year. The other special invitation awarded by Evian Tuesday went to France’s Joanna Klatten, the third highest ranked French woman in the Rolex world rankings. She’s No. 183 in the world and will be one of three French women in the event. France’s Karine Icher (No. 20) and Gwladys Nocera (No. 111) are already in the field.
