ARDMORE, Pa. – Brian Harman is the American sparkplug for its Walker Cup team.
You can see the faith U.S. captain Buddy Marucci Jr. has in the 22-year-old from Savannah, Ga. Marucci sent out Harman first with Morgan Hoffmann in foursomes this morning at Merion Golf Club, and he’s sending out Harman first in the afternoon singles. Oklahoma State’s Rickie Fowler will be right behind Harman in singles. Harman and Fowler are the team leaders and Marucci clearly wants them to set the tone and build momentum by getting American flags on the scoreboard early.
In fact, the first flag up on the scoreboard in this Walker Cup was American with Harman and Hoffmann winning their first hole to go 1 up against Great Britain & Ireland’s Wallace Booth and Sam Hutsby.
The weather is cold, wet and miserable.
