Harrington fights off injury, contending at Travelers

CROMWELL, Conn. – Immediately after an opening-round 1-under 69 at the Travelers Championship, Padraig Harrington could be found icing down his right wrist, the result of a post-round “minor incident” involving a golf cart.

When asked at the time whether he was injured, the three-time major champion simply said he wasn’t without elaborating.

Turns out he was telling the truth.

Harrington has followed that round with scores of 67-65 to get himself into title contention at 9-under, three strokes behind co-leaders Roland Thatcher and Brian Davis entering the final round.

“I’m still fine,” he said after the round. “One thing I have is experience. When you get a knock like that, if you ice it straight away, it doesn’t become anything. You can’t be careless. If you ice it within the first minute, it makes a big difference. I don’t know if there was going to be an issue, but there’s no issue now.”
