Hedwall first player to go 5-0 at Solheim Cup

PARKER, Colo. – Only Michelle Wie stood in the way of history for Caroline Hedwall.

Hedwall won, and history was made at Colorado Golf Club.

The 24-year-old Swede capped a perfect week with a 1-up victory over Wie in Sunday singles at the Solheim Cup to put the finishing touches on a 5-0 record. Hedwall threw her approach into the 18th green to 4 feet and made the birdie putt to win and retain the cup for Europe.

“I don’t know what to say right now, I’m just shaking,” Hedwall said. “It’s unbelievable. It’s such a good feeling.”

In comparison, Hedwall's 5-0 mark earned the same number of points for Europe as top-Americans Paula Creamer, Morgan Pressel, Stacy Lewis and Cristie Kerr combined (4-10-2).

Aside from the record, Hedwall was the only player on either side to play all five matches, going 16, 17, 17, 17 and 18 holes respectively in each match. She was 2-1-1 two years ago in the Solheim Cup in Ireland. Her career record is now 7-1-1.
