Hole-in-one helps guide A. Putnam to 67 in Rd. 3

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – Some bounce-backs are better than others.

Andrew Putnam jumped out to a fast start on Saturday at the Web.com Tour Championship with birdies at four of his first seven holes to move within two strokes of the lead before dumping his tee shot at the par-4 10th into a water hazard and rolling in a 6 footer for what he said was a “pretty good double (bogey).”

Putnam, whose older brother Michael won the regular-season Web.com Tour money list, quickly got those strokes back when his “punched” 3-iron tee shot at the 200-yard 11th dropped short of the hole and trickled in for a hole-in-one.

“I quickly forgot about that (the double bogey) on the next hole,” said Putnam, who finished with a 67 and is alone in fourth place just two shots off the lead. “The hole-in-one kind of got me back settled, got me back in focus.”

Putnam added a birdie at the 12th hole to complete a 6-1-3 run.
