Holmes long wrong at WGC

RSS

MARANA, Ariz. – The battle of the bombers went to J.B. Holmes, although Bubba Watson is the only member of the quarterfinal two-ball who has an afternoon tee time at Dove Mountain.

Holmes, who led 5 up with eight holes to play, lost in 20 holes but can take comfort in the knowledge that he outdrove his long-hitting counterpart on 11 of 15 driving holes, including two 400-yard plus pokes at Nos. 2 and 5.

Of course, it didn’t help that Holmes missed three of his last four fairways and finished bogey-bogey to take the loss.

“It doesn’t matter how much you’re up as long as you don’t finish it off,” Holmes said. “It hurts a little bit but I’ll get over it.”
