SAN MARTIN, Calif. – Max Homa shot 2-under 69 in his professional debut Thursday at the Frys.com Open. It could have been lower.

Homa’s ball moved as he was addressing a chip shot on the par-4 sixth hole, his 15th hole of the day. The one-shot penalty resulted in a bogey.

Homa, the 2013 NCAA individual champion from UC Berkeley, wasn’t the only player penalized in Round 1 at CordeValle Golf Club. Jhonattan Vegas was late to his 7:30 a.m. PT tee time after making a restroom stop. Vegas parred the first hole, but recorded a double bogey-6 thanks to the two-stroke penalty.
