For the PGA Tour it is one down, one to go. On Thursday the circuit announced that health care giant Humana has signed on to become the title sponsor of the Bob Hope Classic through 2020.
The tournament will also partner with the William J. Clinton Foundation and “President Clinton will have a prominent role in both (a conference of health-industry leaders that will be held early in the tournament week) and the tournament.”
The Hope has been without a title sponsor since 2008 and the announcement shores up one of two glaring holes on the Tour schedule. The other, next week’s Heritage in Hilton Head Island, S.C., may be addressed next week when the circuit returns to coastal Carolina.
Sources familiar with the negotiations say the Tour is close to penning a deal to save the Heritage with at least two potential title sponsors.
