Horschel among those in the hunt in Japan

Billy Horschel, Keegan Bradley and defending champion Luke Donald are all trailing the 258th-ranked player in the world after the first round of the Japan Tour’s Dunlop Phoenix.

Kazuhiro Yamashita shot a 4-under 67 Thursday to sit one shot clear of Yoshinobu Tsukada and three shots ahead of a trio of players.

Horschel and Hideki Matsuyama are among the players in a 14-man logjam at T-10, after an opening 71. Horschel tweeted afterward that the greens at Phoenix CC were “some of the toughest I’ve ever played on.”

Donald and Bradley both shot 73 in the first round, while 2014 U.S. Ryder Cup captain Tom Watson (76) is currently T-70 in the 84-player field.

The Dunlop Phoenix features one of the tastiest prizes in all of golf. The winner, you might recall, receives about $80,000 worth of high-quality beef.
