BETHESDA, Md. – Depending on how you crunch the numbers, Bill Haas is either ahead of his father’s pace or behind it.
He now owns five victories in 229 career PGA Tour starts. Jay Haas totaled nine victories in 798 career starts, which would put the son ahead of the father.
But looking at it from another perspective, Jay won his fifth title in his 181st start, needing 48 fewer tournaments.
Either way, Jay – fresh off a T-27 result at the Senior Players Championship on Sunday – enjoyed watching another victory from Bill.
“I know he's had some setbacks,” he said. “He's had quite a few chances. That was probably weighing on him. I'm most proud of how he went out and won it; he didn't back into it or come from way behind. He played one of his best rounds ever. That's what a winner does.
“I don’t know what to tell him when he's in that position. I try to come up with something clever. He's obviously showing a lot of people he's a top player. He's won on some pretty damn good places. His maturity showed today.”
