A busy day for PGA Tour business grew busier still when the Tour announced Friday afternoon that Hyundai has renewed its title sponsorship of the exclusive Tournament of Champions event.
First serving as title sponsor of the winners-only tournament in 2011, Hyundai will now maintain that sponsorship level through the 2015 edition of the event. Earlier in the day, the Tour also announced that Valspar would become the newest title sponsor of its annual stop in Tampa.
'We are very pleased to have Hyundai continue as title sponsor of the Tournament of Champions,' noted PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem as part of the announcement. 'Hyundai has been very active in promoting the tournament and using it to broaden awareness of its brands and products.'
Held annually at the Plantation Course at Kapalua in Maui, the event brings together winners of PGA Tour events from the previous calendar year. Typically serving as the start of the PGA Tour season each January, the event will now cede that distinction as the Tour moves to a wraparound schedule for the 2013-14 season beginning next month.
This past January, the event was shortened to 54 holes after extreme winds forced the tournament to begin on Sunday instead of Friday, with Dustin Johnson eventually claiming the title over Steve Stricker.
The 2014 edition of the event will be held Jan. 3-6.
