LOS ANGELES – Bubba Watson withdrew from the Northern Trust Open Thursday after shooting 5-over-par 76 in the first round.
Watson left Riviera Country Club complaining of pain in the muscles in his lower stomach.
“I have like a pulled muscle, strain,” Watson said.
Watson said he visited doctors twice this week and had a CAT scan.
“Tried to go today,” Watson said. “It’s just my mind was worried about that and not worried about playing golf. I’m not in the right place . . . I need rest.”
Watson hit some awful shots playing alongside Presidents Cup captain Fred Couples but continued to play.
“We know it’s nothing serious,” Watson said. “Blood work and everything is great.”
Watson said he hopes with rest he’ll be ready to play the Accenture Match Play Championship next week.
