Inkster may have tough Solheim Cup choice

Juli Inkster attended the U.S. Solheim Cup practice session at Pine Valley Monday as both an assistant captain and potential player.

Inkster, 50, ranks eighth on the American points standings. The top 10 automatically qualify on the Aug. 21 cutoff date for the Sept. 21-23 matches at Killeen Castle in Ireland.

Inkster has stated that she’s not interesting in playing on a record ninth U.S. Solheim Cup team, but she’s being pressed by friends and colleagues to reconsider with her game elevating.

“We are still uncertain with her on that,” ” U.S. captain Rosie Jones said. “We’ve had a couple conversations. She told me even at the Kraft Nabisco that she still feels the same, that, no, she wasn’t interested in playing, but I wasn’t hearing that so much from her [at Pine Valley]. She just isn’t saying it out loud yet. I’m going to let Juli ride this out.”

If Inkster finishes among the top 10 in points, she can claim a spot on the team.

“Juli’s playing better, but it has to be in her heart that she really wants to be on the team as a player,” Jones said. “Juli will be there in one capacity or another.”
