Ishikawa accepts special temporary PGA Tour membership

RSS

Based upon his performance in the 10 allotted starts he has as a nonmember of the PGA Tour, Ryo Ishikawa has earned and accepted special temporary membership on the Tour for the remainder of 2011.

Despite his horrific showing in the first round of the PGA Championship, Ishikawa posted his best-ever finish on American soil at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational with a T-4. The $473,136 he earned propelled him into a range that would have been inside last year’s top-150 on the money list, which gets Ishikawa unlimited sponsor exemptions through the end of the season with the hope of earning a card for 2012.

Ishikawa is not eligible for the FedEx Cup playoffs because he has not been a member to this point and nonmembers do not accrue FedEx Cup points, but the Japanese teen can play in the Fall Series with the hope of cracking the top-125 on this year’s money list to earn membership and avoid a trip through Q-School to seek it. Last year, it took $786,977 to get into the top-125, so his total earnings of $577,136 is about a third place-finish away from membership.
