ROCHESTER, N.Y. – There's no better time to get hot in the LPGA season.
This week's Wegmans LPGA Championship is the start of a run of three major championships in the next four events. It is also a run of the four richest purses on tour.
Lewis was joking, but she made a point. There is no more important stretch on the tour with the Wegmans LPGA Championship ($2.5 million), U.S. Women's Open ($3.25 million), Evian Masters ($3.25 million) and Ricoh Women's British Open ($2.5 million) being played in consecutive events.
'It is pressure to play well,' Lewis said. 'If you are playing well, you can go out there and win a couple of tournaments, a couple of majors.'
And a big batch of money.
There is $11.5 million in prize money up for grabs in the next four events. That is about one-quarter of the total prize money for the entire 2011 LPGA season.
