Fredrik Jacobson is finally getting back to the life of a normal pro. After a late start to the year caused by a thumb injury, the Swede is feeling back to his usual self.
"I think around the Masters is when I really began to feel better. The shots began to come back closer to 100 percent," Jacobson said in a telephone interview Tuesday.
The results in two of his last three events have matched what the 37-year-old has been feeling. No longer having to compensate for a touchy injury, he finished T-19 at Augusta National and T-18 two weeks later at the Valero Texas Open.
Up until April, however, Jacobson's game was under his thumb.
"It took up to four hours per day with rehab, training and exercises for the six to eight weeks afterward. It's almost like I had no time to do anything else," he said. "It feels odd because you want to spend time on your game on your swing, and instead you're spending all of this time on one body part."
Jacobson is now getting back into the training regimen to which he is accustomed. The next goal is to put together a string of good finishes. He will be defending his maiden PGA Tour victory at the Travelers Championship June 21-24.
"I've been trying to force the issue a little bit, so I'm trying to be more conscious about pushing to get a big result and just focus on playing and having fun on the course," he said.
