Jimenez, Quiros take different roads to Hong Kong contention

RSS

Spaniards Alvaro Quiros and Miguel Angel Jimenez are in contention after the first round of the UBS Hong Kong Open. Quiros is joint leader with Rory McIlroy and David Horsey after shooting 6-under 64, while Jimenez is alone in fourth and a shot back of the lead trio.

Jimenez has won this event twice, while Quiros is making just his second start in Hong Kong.

'One of my favorites,” Jimenez said. “It's an old track. It's not a long course. But you need to get the ball always in position. If not, you're going to be in trouble.”

That wasn’t an easy thing to do Thursday as wind played a major role on the Fanling Course.

'I think you have to be lucky to shoot low under these conditions,' said Quiros, who added that his bombardier style didn’t suit the track.

'I'm not the typical one who likes to move the ball. I like more (of) golf target, so that's why I think this golf course is not the best one for me,' he said.

Quiros then joked, 'I know this is like the backyard for Miguel. Everything that is good for Miguel is not good for me. We have nothing in common.'
