Johnson healthy, fit and in command

Dustin Johnson

It’s little surprise to see Dustin Johnson a field goal clear of the field and racing toward an abbreviated victory at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions, at least to those who have spent the last two years trying to keep him on the field.

This is, after all, the same player who missed nearly three months last season after tweaking his back trying to hoist his jet ski from the water. It is the same linebacker-like athlete that had surgery on his right knee in late 2011.

But according to his trainer, Randy Myers, the payoff for all that rehabilitation is on display at Kapalua, where Johnson leads by three strokes heading into Tuesday’s final round at the 54-hole event.

Johnson’s improved health has also been a byproduct of a unique workout regimen that includes three different trainers. When Johnson is on Tour he has been splitting his time with circuit training staples Chris Noss and Joey Diovisalvi as well as Myers.

“He is really the first guy to use multiple trainers on Tour which allows us to monitor his program and make sure he remains focused,” said Myers, whose Tour stable includes Johnson, Brandt Snedeker and Lucas Glover. “It’s turned into a great relationship.”
