Six more players punched their ticket Sunday to next month’s British Open.
With a three-stroke victory at the Japan Tour’s Mizuno Open, Brendan Jones clinched one of the four available Open berths for those not already eligible.
The top four players from the event at JFE Setonaikai Golf Club in Okayama earned a spot in the year’s third major. Jones captured his 13th career title on the Japan Tour to lead the way, followed by K.T. Kim, Makoto Inoue (making Open debut) and Shingo Katayama.
Also, at the conclusion of the Mizuno Open, the top two players on the money list not already eligible gained entry into the field. Hideki Matsuyama is No. 1 on that list, but he already qualified for the event. As a result, Satoshi Kodaira earned a tee time at Muirfield, as did Hyung-Sung Kim, who was third in earnings.
