Robert Karlsson may need to take the remainder of the year off, due to a serious eye problem.
The 39-year-old Swede has a blister behind his left retina which is affecting his vision. He spoke to the European press Wednesday while competing in the SAS Masters Pro-Am.
'I was optimistic until today,' said Karlsson, who is not playing in the tournament proper and hasn't played an event since late May. 'I had real problems with my ball in the rough and in bunkers and even when it was on the fariway, my depth of perceptions wasn't good.'
Karlsson said he plans to see his eye specialist again Friday at his home in Monaco.
Karlsson topped the 2008 European Tour Order of Merit last year. He said the pressure in trying to win the title might have caused his condition.
'I can't explain how it works, but I'm told the stress I've put myself under last year and this year could be responsible,' he said.
