The city of Tokyo was awarded the 2020 Olympic Games on Saturday – and there’s already a golf venue listed as the host site.
According to the host committee’s official website, the 2020 competition will take place at Kasumigaseki Country Club, located northwest of the city and its proposed Olympic Village site.
Three years ago, Hideki Matsuyama won the Asian Amateur Championship at Kasumigaseki, though that tournament was contested on its West Course. The 2020 host site has been proposed as the East Course.
Founded in 1929, Kasumigaseki has hosted the Japan Open Golf Championship on four occasions – two apiece on its West Course and East Course – most recently serving in that role in 2006.
In 1957, the club hosted the Canada Cup – now known as the World Cup – which featured an unprecedented victory from the native duo of Torakichi Nakamura and Koichi Ono over teams that included the likes of Sam Snead and Gary Player.
