Keeping tabs on the tabloids

ST. ANDREWS, Scotland – As Tiger Woods learned on Tuesday, the United Kingdom press plays by different rules and one of the traditions of Open Championship week are the creative, and often misleading, headlines in each morning’s tabloids.

On Saturday The Scottish Sun declared, “Wrecked and Shrek’d,” a reference to the Day 2 carnage and leader Louis Oosthuizen’s nickname, Shrek; as well as the wildly misleading headline “It’s adios amigos, Gutted Garcia ready to quit.”

The Scottish Daily Mail was a tad more tame, “McIlroy falls out of love with old windbag,” while the Daily Record went with “I’m ogre the moon” to celebrate Oosthuizen’s play.
