Keeping the game in perspective

Monday, I was down at PGA National for the Ernie Els for Autism Pro-Am, and by all accounts, $700,000 was raised to help the completion of the Els for Autism – Center of Excellence in South Florida.

Jack Nicklaus, Graeme McDowell, Luke Donald, Dustin Johnson and Adam Scott were among those who said they wouldn't miss the chance to help the Big Easy's son, Ben, who has autism, and other families like them.

What struck me, is how often we lose perspective. We're really all the same. Our wallet size might be different, but real-life challenges hit all of us, which is something to keep in mind the next time any of us question Els' motivation to add to his three majors – or calls Phil Mickelson a major underachiever.

Life is precious; it's not about majors. Ask the players.
