Dr. Richard Coop, a professor of educational psychology at the University of North Carolina who works with a lot of tour pros, didn’t have to be in New Orleans to hear something therapeutic in Perry’s interviews with media this week.
He hears Perry, who opened with a 3-under-par 69 Thursday, making healthy attempts to purge his Masters’ disappointment.
“Something like that, it’s better to talk about it than push it down,” Coop said. “When you push it down, it can be like pushing a beach ball down into a swimming pool. Eventually, it’s going to come shooting back up, and it’s going to come up with a lot of force, if you don’t deal with it.”
