Kerr needs record comeback to win

OAKMONT, Pa. – Paula Creamer will go off in the final group with fellow American Wendy Ward and South Korea’s Amy Yang at 12:20 p.m. this afternoon at the U.S. Women’s Open.

The pairings were just released.

Cristie Kerr is in the fourth to last group off.

Kerr, seeking to win back-to-back majors, is six shots behind Creamer. If Kerr wins, it will be a record for largest come-from-behind victory in the final round of the U.S. Women’s Open.

Six players have come from five shots back to win. The last to do so was Annika Sorenstam when she won at Broadmoor in ’95.

The final round begins at 10:30 a.m. with threesomes going off the first and 10th tees.

Alexis Thompson, the 15-year-old pro from Coral Springs, Fla., is off in the next-to-last group with Norway’s Suzann Pettersen and American Christina Kim.
