PARADISE ISLAND, Bahamas – Lydia Ko’s second round began ominously at the Pure Silk Bahamas Classic.
Or so she thought.
She birdied the first hole.
“I don’t like making birdies at the first hole,” said Ko, the 16-year-old phenom looking for her third LPGA title in her first start as a rookie member of the tour. “Well, I don’t mind, but it doesn’t [usually] end up being the nicest days.”
Actually, it ended up all right, with Ko posting a 3-under-par 70 to stay in the hunt. The first-round leader will go into the weekend tied for fifth, just three shots off the lead.
