THOUSAND OAKS, Calif – Matt Kuchar walked off the 10th tee box at Sherwood Country Club on Thursday afternoon eating an apple. He got about 100 yards into the fairway, then made a right turn, walking well out of his way to toss the core into a trash can.
He then made a quick joke about taking care of the course as a nearby observer replied that the course could take care of him. You know, karma.
You don’t have to believe in the golf gods to realize what happened just minutes later.
On the par-5 11th hole, Kuchar hit a fairway wood into the green that found a slope and rolled some 30 feet before stopping within inches of an albatross.
Instead, it was a tap-in eagle, part of a 4-under 68 that left him just a stroke behind overnight leader Zach Johnson.
