Kuchar posts bogey-free 63 in Round 2 at Waialae

HONOLULU – Matt Kuchar was among many players who went low at the Sony Open on Friday, but maintained afterward that we shouldn’t mistake Waialae CC as an easy track.

“This course is difficult,” he contended after a 7-under 63 that left him in fourth place going into the weekend. “This course, as simple as it seems, it's one of the tougher courses on Tour. If you're not playing well, you're going to make some bogeys. I’m fortunate to be playing some good golf and fun to make some birdies out there today.”

Kuchar made five birdies in all – plus an eagle – without posting a single bogey. That’s even more impressive when inspecting his numbers. In the second round, he hit just eight of 14 fairways and 11 of 18 greens in regulation.

The secret, obviously, was putting, as Kuchar needed just 24 putts on the day.

“These greens are just beautiful greens,” he said. “It's been a joy to come over here, have some little lighter breezes, and it's a fun golf course to play.”
