Kuchar within 2 of Mickelson

LOS ANGELES – Matt Kuchar felt like he was on fire when he reached the sixth green Friday at the Northern Trust Open.

Not, however, in the way golfers want that feeling.

Kuchar had a pretty good reason for missing his 5-foot birdie attempt there. He got stung by a bee on the forearm upon reaching the green.

“The thing got me,” said Kuchar, who played his college golf at Georgia Tech and thus was, yes, a Yellow Jacket.. “It was pretty painful.”

“I wasn’t quite sure what was going to be the end result of a bee sting. I felt like my elbow was a bit on fire. I was told if you have trouble breathing, `Stop, and we’ll try to help you.’”

Kuchar didn’t have a reaction, and he managed to finish off a solid round, posting a 2-under-par 69 to get within two of the leader, Phil Mickelson.
