LaCava reaping rewards on Tiger's bag

ORLANDO, Fla. – For the record, the first two questions fielded by Joe LaCava on Sunday at Bay Hill were concerning his beloved New York Giants and his former bosses’ victory at the Mississippi Golf Resort Classic.

It was the latter that drew a chorus of laughs from the assembled scribes.

“Where was that 10-footer for birdie on the last hole when I was working for the guy?” joked LaCava of Fred Couples’ walk-off birdie on last hole to beat Michael Allen on the Champions Tour in Mississippi.

It is interesting that LaCava’s new boss, Tiger Woods, would get on the board the same week his old guy won. If both players pay the customary 10 percent of their winnings for a victory to their caddies, LaCava would have earned $108,000 at Bay Hill, compared to $24,000 if he was still on Couples' bag.

“Anybody in their right mind would take the job; it’s Tiger Woods,” LaCava said. “It’s easy to say that now, but I think I said that when I took the job.”
