Lagardère Unlimited completed a deal to dramatically increase the company’s U.S. management footprint, acquiring Crown Sports and hiring Jay Danzi, whose client list includes PGA Tour Rookie of the Year Jordan Spieth.
The additions expand Lagardère’s client list to 43 Tour players, including the addition of Brandt Snedeker, Davis Love III, Boo Weekley and Lucas Glover. The Paris-based firm also hired golf industry executives Charley Moore and Roddy Carr as consultants.
“As multinational brands enhance their partnerships with international sports like golf, tennis, and soccer, Lagardère Unlimited is well-positioned to capitalize on this global marketing trend,” Andy Pierce, Lagardère’s president and chief executive officer, said in a release.
Danzi and Crown Sports CEO Mac Barnhardt will report to Pierce.
Barnhardt told GolfChannel.com the deal will allow him the autonomy to operate as he always has and a greater global reach.
“It solves the one issue I was tackling. I am growing the business but it is a global game. Golf is going in the Olympics (in 2016). This solves that issue,” Barnhardt said. “It really came down to the people involved. I know Andy Pierce from IMG, I know Steve Loy (the president of Lagardère’s golf division), I have worked with all of them and they are the perfect match.”
