PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – The longest wait continues for Scott Langley, the first alternate for this week’s Players Championship.
Langley arrived at TPC Sawgrass on Monday, preparing for the event as if he would any other, but with each passing tee time on Thursday his chances dwindled.
GolfChannel.com spotted Langley early Thursday counting the hours in player dinning. “It’s alright. I got in some good practice,” he smiled.
Langley was the last player in The Players field at last Friday’s deadline and could only get bumped if someone won the Wells Fargo Championship who wasn’t already exempt. That player was Derek Ernst, whose breakthrough victory at Quail Hollow effectively cost Langley a spot in the Tour’s flagship event.
