ST. ANDREWS, Scotland – Phil Mickelson still loves the Old Course, he’s just bummed that he hasn’t been able to get more out of his golf the past three days. Saturday at the Open Championship was no exception.
Lefty was making a slight move early and had made five birdies and a bogey with three holes remaining. But he made double bogey on the 423-yard, par-4 16th hole, then followed it with a bogey on the Road Hole, the tricky 17th. He was able to make birdie on the home hole to shoot 70, which puts him at 2-under-par 214 for the championship.
“I’m disappointed in myself because I let a good round slide,” Mickelson said. “I let a good opportunity to get back into the tournament somewhat to where a good round tomorrow could maybe get it done.”
