AUGUSTA, Ga. – When Phil Mickelson kept plucking driver from his bag at tight driving holes at the Shell Houston Open last week, Butch Harmon didn’t react the way everyone else did.
“There was no real room to drive the ball there,” said Harmon, Mickelson's swing coach. “He hit driver every hole. People said, `What are you doing? You’re an idiot.’ He was trying to get ready for here. He didn’t really care if he hit some balls in the water. Obviously, he was trying, but he was trying to get his mindset ready because here [at Augusta National] you’re going to drive it just about every hole.”
Mickelson shot 76 in the second round of the Shell Houston Open on his way to finishing tied for 35th.
